The Gaelbhratach scheme is administered by Gael-Linn and creates natural opportunities for students to speak Irish outside of the formal classroom setting. Schools taking part work towards earning the Gaelbhratach flag. We're proud to have raised our first Gaelbhratach flag at the end of our first year on the scheme and we're delighted to have been awarded a special prize for best new school at the annual flag award ceremony in Coláiste Mhuire gan Smál in Limerick in May 2026.
We have a very active, hard-working committee comprised of almost fifty students, representing all year-groups and levels of study, who work together to provide more opportunities for our students to speak the language. Regular committee meetings ensure that we can achieve the goals of our action plan. We hold weekly Tae agus Plé sessions at lunchtime, have regular announcements as Gaeilge as well as competitions, fundraisers, activities and special events throughout the year. We take part in initiatives such as Gaeilge 24, Dúshlán '26, Seó Bóthair Conradh na Gaeilge and High Rock Productions workshops. The committee have also committed to organising an annual school trip to the Gaeltacht going forward following the success of our first trip to Coláiste Uisce in March 2026.
We provide up-to-date information in relation to Gaeltacht colleges and courses and are responsible for coordinating our annual school Seachtain na Gaeilge. This year, we sponsored an award to recognise the student who makes the most effort to speak the language outside of the classroom Gaeilgeoir na Bliana, which will be awarded every year during our Seachtain na Gaeilge. We also create content for our school social media accounts encouraging our students to use whatever Irish they have where possible. We look forward to continuing to support the work being done in the classroom to help our students to become more comfortable speaking the language. Beatha teanga í a labhairt!
