Transition Year students at Wilson’s put on “Grease, the Musical!” in May 2025
After nearly a decade away from the limelight, Wilson’s Hospital School made a return to the world of school musicals with a vibrant, high-energy production of Grease the Musical. Bringing Grease to life was no small feat. With many of the Transition Year students having little to no experience in acting, singing, or musical theatre at the start of the academic year, the production quickly became a story of growth, dedication, and community spirit.
From September, the TY students threw themselves into rehearsals with enthusiasm and determination. For many, this was their first time learning lines, choreographing scenes, or working with musical scores. Under the direction of Ms Jan Lindsay, the cast and crew members alike gained valuable skills in teamwork, time management, and creative expression. Mr Cunningham was in charge of the music practices and the production team.
Jasmine was ecstatic when she landed the role of Sandy. “Playing this role as brought me so much joy and fulfilment. Seeing how close everybody got has been such a good experience” she said. Aran overcame nerves to land the role of Danny and grew in confidence at each rehearsal. He thinks the musical was “an incredible experience that I would recommend to anyone, no matter how sure or unsure you are of yourself”.
The stage in the school’s Concert Hall was extended and renovated and the back wall was decorated with a fabulous mural. New LED spotlights were installed and the school invested in extra sound equipment. Many thanks to Fox Audio for their help with the sound equipment.
Behind the scenes, another team of students worked tirelessly on advertising, set design and costume making. The whole team’s efforts paid off as each show night saw an enthusiastic crowd pack out the school’s Concert Hall, bringing with them a buzz of anticipation and community pride.
As the curtain fell to rapturous applause on the final night’s show, it was clear that Grease was not just a performance, but a powerful moment of reconnection and achievement for everyone involved. Thank you to everyone who supported this show in any way and to the audience who came to the shows and sang and clapped along enthusiastically. It was an amazing end to Transition Year for these students.
